Great price - great switch. The switch is quiet. The first one has been running since July 2008. Gigabit connections and 100 MB traffic all work seamlessly. The blue metal box is nice. They stack easily. These are awesome. Just take it out of the box and plug it in.
No fan but no problems with heat. Less expensive than many 5-port switches. TRENDnet TEG-S80TXE 8-Port 10/100/1000 Mbps Copper Gigabit SwitchWe just installed our second TRENDnet 10/100/1000 switch. They handle mixed 100 and gigabit traffic with no problems. Allow some room for airflow.
The metal case is well made and sturdy and I much prefer the color to other switches, even if that is just aesthetic. The link lights on the front are nice for a home network panel where the plug-in side of the switch may not be visible (rendering the Netgear's link lights useless). the Netgear. This is a great switch that runs cheaper than Netgear, looks better, and performs just as well. I have both brands of 8 port switches and I'll continue to buy Trendnet from now on. Comes with rubber feet (stick-on, you install) and the rear mounting screw holes are better than others I have used, esp.
One is the original version and the other is a later version. Only note is they must have air ciculation to stay cool. I have 2 of these to create a gigabit network in my house for video transmition and for my Network storage. Both are running great for more than 2 years. This is the best deal in town on a gigabit switch.
I've got two of these, running for several months now. Not a single problem.
The Dlink was running way hot, especially as my cat loved to sleep on top of it. This one is still warm, but not nearly as hot.
And it has 8 fast gigabit ports and is very affordable. The case on the Trendnet is more solid.
So the cat doesn't sleep on it as often. It is my favorite color (blue).
I bought this one to replace a Dlink gigabit switch in my home network. It died, no doubt because of the heat.
It is quiet (fanless).
